CHAIRMAN PROTO DEMANDS DEMOCRATS APOLOGIZE TO SENATOR RYAN FAZIO AND NON-PROFIT FOR SHAMEFUL POLITICAL ATTACK

Middletown, CT – Connecticut Republican Party Chairman Ben Proto today called on Governor Ned Lamont and the Connecticut Democrat Party to immediately apologize for a political attack which targeted Senator Ryan Fazio (R-36) and, by extension, a respected Connecticut non-profit.

Yesterday, Connecticut Democrats posted to their official social media accounts a doctored political meme of Senator Fazio alongside President Donald Trump. The image was lifted from Senator Fazio’s social media, where he was volunteering at a local Connecticut coffee shop, Coffee for Good Café, a non-profit dedicated to providing paid job training for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“Everyone knows politics is a tough business, and we are all prepared for the slings and arrows the other side may throw at us, however, what the Democrats did yesterday is beneath contempt,” said Chairman Ben Proto. “They twisted a photo of Senator Fazio helping an organization that is above politics—an organization we should all be celebrating, not attacking. Instead of applauding service to others, Democrats dragged this incredible non-profit, and the amazing young men and women who work there and provide fabulous service to the community, into their gutter politics.”

Proto continued: “Governor Lamont should be ashamed of his party’s behavior. I am demanding that the Connecticut Democrat Party issue an immediate apology to Senator Fazio and this outstanding organization—and I am calling on Governor Lamont personally to disavow these disgraceful tactics. Anything less is a green light for more attacks on good people doing good work.”

“Governor Lamont, you should stop in at Coffee for Good Café and personally apologize, and when you do, tell them Ryan and Ben sent you.”
